Sony has confirmed that a digital press conference will be held on April 14th, which could mark a possible launch date for the long-awaited flagship Sony Xperia 1 III.The event will be streamed on the company’s official YouTube channel at 12:30 p.m. (PT) / 3:30 a.m. (ET) / 8:30 a.m. (BST) / 8:30 p.m. (ACT).
In the past, Sony announced its latest Xperia smartphones at MWC Barcelona, which usually takes place in February. However, MWC 2021 has been postponed due to travel and deportation restrictions imposed by the global Covid-19 pandemic.
This announcement confirms recent reports that the Sony Xperia 1 III – the expected successor to the 2020 Xperia 1 II – will be released in April. It’s worth noting that due to production delays after its predecessor was released, the Xperia 1 III may not hit shelves until late 2021, even if the device is actually featured at that digital press conference. Still, it’s exciting to learn that we can finally get an official look at one of the most feature-rich phones of the year.
The Xperia 10 III, a budget entry in Sony’s lineup, could also appear at Sony’s announcement event as the latest in the Xperia 10 range usually ships with the new Xperia 1.

After the recent leaks, we expect the Sony Xperia 1 III to be packed with impressive specs and features.Perhaps the most exciting rumor is the possibility that the device will sport a periscope zoom camera, which could mean it could rival the Samsung Galaxy S21 for shooting performance.
The Xperia 1 II had a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and the addition of a periscope lens that extends the magnification lengthways across the phone and uses mirrors to capture the angle from behind. or even 10x zoom function.
Other language specifications for the device are the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset as well as 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage (in a premium version up to 16 GB of RAM and 521 GB of storage). We also expect the Xperia 1 III to come with a 6.5-inch OLED panel and a 21: 9 aspect ratio, the same elongated design feature as the other models in the Xperia series.
However, what we love most is the price. Previous leaks indicated that Sony’s next flagship will cost CNY 8,999, which is roughly $ 1,369 / £ 995 / AU $ 1,810. That’s a respectable number, even considering the price of its predecessor. We would therefore like Sony to reject these rumors if the device launches on April 14th.
