New Samsung Galaxy A82 Specifications – Today we are going to talk about Samsung Galaxy A82. So 2018-19 will be the year for pop-up camera phones in the world of smartphones. We’ve seen phones like that Oppo Find X with a huge motorized setup, we’ve seen phones like that too OnePlus 7 Pro with a small pop camera mechanism.
But the most interesting motorized camera smartphone was made by Samsung, called the Galaxy A80, which had a pop-up flip camera as the main camera module slides up on the back and then rotates forward. Pop-up camera phones and slider phones are fantastic for several reasons. They allow for higher screen-to-body ratios because the selfie camera does not require a notch or a thick bezel.
Many people wondered if we will ever see the successor to the Galaxy A80, or was it a one-off deal? Initially, Samsung is actually working on the successor to the A80, the Galaxy A82. We first heard about this in early 2021 when Samsung registered a trademark for a number of Galaxy A smartphones, some of which have already been launched. The phone has been reported to have 5G support. However, there is currently no information on whether or not it is a motorized camera setup like the A80. But the phone popped up on Geekbench and revealed some interesting details.
Samsung Galaxy A82 Specifications
First off, for some strange reason, Samsung is using a two year old flagship chipset for this phone. The Galaxy A82 will have the Snapdragon 855+. It’s an overclocked chipset that can be found on the Galaxy Note 10+. The SoC on the A82 is paired with 6 GB of RAM and the device is running Android 11. Therefore, it makes sense that One UI 3.1 is shipped immediately.
The 6 GB RAM is probably the basic RAM variant, it should also have at least the 8 GB RAM variant. If you are wondering why are they using a two year old chipset? Why not use the Snapdragon 870 that sits under the Snapdragon 888 on the Galaxy S21 Ultra? Well the likely explanation for this is cost. Since the Snapdragon 855+ is an almost three generation old chipset, it will be available at a much cheaper price point than the Snapdragon 870 and even the 865.
Samsung Galaxy A82 Price
Samsung is likely to market this phone as a premium, upper mid-range phone. Since it is not a flagship, they have to offer the handset at competitive prices, otherwise it will have the same fate as its predecessor. If Samsung uses a motorized camera device on this phone, which by the way is an expensive component, they’ll have to cut corners somewhere. In a way, it’s good that they are using the Snapdragon 855+ instead of a high-midrange chipset like the Snapdragon 750G. If we compare the Geekbench scores of these two chipsets, it’s clear that the 855+ is a far more powerful chipset than the 750G.
Plus, the Galaxy A80 had a humble Snapdragon 730G when it launched, so I would say this is a win-win situation if it is possible to keep the retail price low and offer a motorized setup camera as well. If Samsung opted for a motorized setup for the Galaxy A82, that setup would likely be specified in the patent. When you want to take a selfie, the camera would lift up so that the top lens protrudes from the phone and then rotates to face the user.
