Release date and price of Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold

The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold was announced in China on March 30, 2021. Pre-orders opened the same day and the phone was able to be delivered to China on April 16. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, this has not yet been confirmed. for the US, UK or Australia, but that may change.

At least the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold could end up in the UK and Australia at some point, but we would be very surprised if it were launched in the US as Xiaomi does not currently sell its phones there. The price of the Mi Mix Fold starts at 9,999 yuan in China (around $ 1,520 / £ 1,100 / AU $ 2,000). This applies to a model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

For a model with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage it is up to 11,000 yuan (approx. US $ 1,675 / £ 1,210 / AU $ 2,200) and for a model with 16 GB it is up to 13,000 yuan (approx. AU $ 2,600) RAM and 512 GB storage.Of course, prices in the US, UK, and Australia are not an exact conversion when introduced in these regions.

Design and visualization

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has a large internal 8.01-inch main screen (1860 x 2480) (for a pixel density of 387 pixels per inch) with an aspect ratio of 4: 3, a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a maximum brightness of 900 Nits and support for HDR10 + and Dolby Vision. The main AMOLED screen flips inward when the phone is closed, just like the Samsung Galaxy Z, so you can only use this screen when it is open at full size.

For the rest of the time, you can use an external 6.5-inch AMOLED 840 x 2520 display with HDR10 +, a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a maximum brightness of 900 nits. It’s very tight, with an aspect ratio of 27: 9, and oddly enough, it’s in some ways the better of the two displays because of its higher refresh rate.

It also has a 180 Hz higher sample rate compared to 120 Hz for the foldable main screen. This is a measure of how often the screen is checking input from your finger. All of this makes sense, as likely many users will use the non-foldable external display most of the time and only open the Mi Mix Fold for tasks that require additional space.

Camera and battery

The highlight of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is probably not even its folding screen, but its liquid lens camera. This is new to smartphones and uses some of the same principles as the human eye, with a lenticular structure made of liquid wrapped in film.

Since the lens is not fixed, it can presumably change shape (with the help of a motor), allowing photos to be taken with 3x optical zoom and 30x hybrid zoom or macro photos from just 3 cm away.
This lens uses an 8MP sensor but is flanked by a 108MP f / 1.8 main camera (which uses a more traditional lens) and a 13MP f / 2.4 ultra wide angle camera with a 123 degree field of view.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold also has a 20 MP front camera (i.e. front when the main screen is closed) and can record videos up to 8K quality at 30 frames per second.

The battery of the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has two batteries with a total capacity of 5020 mAh. Fast charging is supported with an impressive 67W which, according to the company, can take the phone from zero to 100% in just 37 minutes. However, wireless charging is not provided here.

Specifications and functions

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold has a high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset and 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM.The Mi Mix Fold also has a cooling system so that it can continue pumping without overheating. It has 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, but no microSD card slot.

Obviously, it is a 5G phone running Android 10 overlaid with MIUI 12. The software is therefore slightly out of date as Android 11 has not been available for a while. There is also a fingerprint attached to the side
